Well, month one of the new year and still on the resolution bandwagon. This week I finished F. Scott Fitzgerald’s This Side of Paradise. It was published in 1920, a few years before the famous Great Gatsby. This book chronicles the emotionally turbulent young adult years of Amory Blaine in the Jazz era. Personally I enjoyed The Great Gatsby quite a bit more. The stories, to a certain extent, are similar enough but This Side of Paradise has a younger main character and the first half of the novel is a bit to scattered / disconnected for my taste. Overall I didn’t feel like it had much development or ending, however, I did start this book once 3 1/2 years ago and am happy to cross it off the “to read” list. February’s book is called The Long Walk: The Story of A Walk to Freedom.
What have you been reading lately? I’d love to know!
Favorite quote from this book: “Every author ought to write every book as if he were going to be beheaded the day he finished it.”
